What we do

Where we work

Whether you're chasing a state final, a Gift, or two tenths off your 20 metre fly before a club pre-season, the programme is written for what you actually contest — not a generic block dropped on top of you.

Sprint
squad

TRACK · ALL AGES, ALL LEVELS

The core of it. Athletes finding out what they can run train alongside competitors at state and national level, because the session that makes a 12-second athlete faster is the same session, scaled. Programmed in blocks and adjusted week to week on what the log shows.

Victorian
Athletic League

PROFESSIONAL · HANDICAP

A growing stable of performers across the VAL circuit. Handicap racing rewards the athlete who fronts up in form every weekend, not the one who peaks once in February — so the programming is built around holding form across a season of meets rather than spiking for a single final.

Team sport
speed

AFL · HAWTHORN & MELBOURNE

Sprint work for footballers: acceleration off the mark, top speed, and the ability to produce both again in the last quarter. Track methods applied to in-game running, with the testing numbers to show whether it moved.

Schools
& juniors

DEVELOPMENT

Ongoing work with Grammar school athletics programmes, building mechanics and speed in junior athletes while the training loads are still light — which is the point at which technique is cheapest to change.

Online
programming

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL

Track and gym plans for athletes and team-sport players anywhere, delivered through the same log the Melbourne squad uses. Every session comes back with the times, the loads and the RPE against it, so a programme written from across the country is still written on evidence.

Inside a session

Race simulation

Spikes on, and the session run the way race day will be run.

A race simulation is the point in a block where the work stops being preparation and starts being rehearsal — the intervals, the recovery and the order of it all set to match what the day itself will ask for.

Every rep of it is in the log before anyone leaves the track, which is what makes the next block easier to write than the last one.

The training log

Your programme,
in their pocket

  • Sessions land on their phone. Each athlete sees the week they've been given, ticks off reps as they go, and never has to remember it on the drive home.
  • Times carry their start. Blocks, three-point, standing, walk-in, flying — because a flying 20 and a 20 out of blocks are not the same rep. Personal bests are kept apart accordingly.
  • Splits, wind and timing method. Gates, FAT or hand, recorded with the rep, so a 4.03 is never quietly compared against a hand-timed 4.03.
  • Field events log every attempt — fouls included. A scratched 7.40 says more about the run-up than leaving it out ever will.
  • Gym loads, session RPE and a 30-second check-in on sleep, soreness and fatigue. Weekly load and monotony fall out of it without anyone doing sums.
  • Combined-events athletes watch the points build off the official tables, event by event, across the whole season.

About

The coach

A coach reaching over the barrier to shake an athlete's hand after a race.

Templeton Athletics covers every Olympic athletics discipline, but it starts with speed. The core is a sprint squad open to all ages and all levels — athletes finding out what they can run, training alongside competitors on the state and national domestic scene.

Alongside that we've built a stable of strong, consistent performers across the Victorian Athletic League, where the racing comes week after week and turning up in form matters more than any single good day.

Outside the sprint squads, Templeton Athletics has long worked with Grammar school athletics programmes developing junior athletes, and with AFL clubs Hawthorn and Melbourne on in-game sprint performance. There is also a substantial online side of the business — track and gym programming for athletics and team-sport athletes, nationally and overseas.
